Posted - 10/31/2009 : 02:45:22 AM Boeing move to bring immediate jobs to the Lowcountry October 29, 2009
Boeing plans to break ground on its news 787 Dreamliner plant in North Charleston next month.
On Thursday, South Carolina Commerce Secretary Joe Taylor told News 2 that up to 1,700 construction jobs would start almost immediately.
Taylor said it will take all kinds of construction jobs to build the plant, and he expects to draw people from across the Southeast.
It’s still not certain which companies will be hiring.
“I think they’ll announce who the contractor is here very shortly,“ said Taylor, “and of course they’ll be subcontracting it and I’m sure there’ll be some type of public awareness made of the jobs that are available down there.“
As for the plant itself, Boeing will hire at least 3,800 people.
But state officials say suppliers and satellite industries will create thousands of spinoff jobs as well.
Taylor says Boeing will hire about a thousand assembly line workers and thousands more in engineering, administrative and clerical jobs.
The jobs will become available in a year to 18 months.

Posted - 11/21/2009 : 9:51:38 PM I hired on last Wed., we started 7-10's this weekend. supposed to go through Christmas. It's the most different job I've ever had. We had a little talk this morning and my foreman tried to explain about how they (Jacobs) did things. He said they are safety first, quality #2 and production #3. I have seen nothing that would say that that is not the truth. I wouldn't work there for years because it was too far away from the house, 45 minutes... lot of wasted time.Oh well. From what I've seen not tieing off in the JLG will get your money. Doing crappy work or being incompetent ( so you can pass the test, they give you a calculater and a book)that takes a little longer. Oops , 10 pm got to get my beauty rest so I can watch the sun come up over the job. I think I've posted the #'s for the Charleston projects, I know they're hiring.
