| I am an instrument mechanic, completed a 5 yr apprentiship and a 2 year technician course, I have 10 yrs experience in gas and oil industry. I'm at a superviser level. Looking for work in australia for possible re-location. I presently work as a contractor and travel approx. 400kms per day. I would be interested in any contacts that are looking for a hard working and knowledgable technician. Preferably a smaller company but not a must. Brent |

Australia is currently going through a minor recession as a result of the global economic downturn. But it is not nearly as bad here as it is in the U.S.. Australia is expected to recover quickly. As of now, most businesses have put a freeze on hiring overseas workers, but this is expected to change in about 6 months time.
If you have any specific questions about visas, jobs and imigration, please ask. |

As for the DUI, not a problem, I have one and still managed to get an Australian Visa. If you have over 20 years welding you should qualify for an occupation on the Australian Immigration website. I think truch drivers are on the list too. Also, if you're disgruntled with work in the U.S. doesn't mean it's going to be any better in Australia. There is the same bull**** here that you have to put up with as in the U.S. The only thing I'm saying is there are many opportunities here to improve your quality of life. Just for the record, I love the U.S., I'm only here in Australia to make some quick money, retire early and return to the U.S. to enjoy my golden years.

I will be going to this project in November:
Gorgon Secures Final Environmental Approval by Asia Pulse Pte Ltd August 26, 2009
The Chevron-led Gorgon gas project could begin before Christmas if the three joint venture partners follow the Australian government's final tick of approval with a decision to invest in the plan.
Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett on Wednesday announced final environmental approval for the A$50 billion (US$41.73 billion) Gorgon liquefied natural gas (LNG) project on Barrow Island, off Western Australia's Pilbara coast
The Chevron-led joint venture project, in which ExxonMobil and Shell each have a 25 percent stake, will also supply about 30 percent of WA's domestic gas requirements.
Accommodation for 3,300 fly-in, fly-out workers will be built in the construction phase, which is expected to create 7,000 (7,000) jobs for people working on the project and a further 3,000 in spin-off employment.
